


Kalamoti


Kalamoti was built in the 14th century during the Genoese rule. The typical construction of the houses consists of two floors. In medieval times the animals were in the basement and the living space on the second floor. The doors of the houses are carved in a traditional fashion. Like the other villages the construction of Kalamoti is to support the defence against pirates.
The main occupation of the villagers is agriculture. As Kalamoti is the masticha chora, the main product is the mastic. Other products are cotton, almonds and tobacco.



Virgin Agrelopousaina


Near Kalamoti the small church Virgin Agrelopousaina can be found. The church is located on top of a hill with a beautiful field. The front side is made of marble inside this small church are nice sculptures. The church is believed to be built in the year 1381.
