Some historians believe that the famous Greek poet Homer was born on Chios. He lived around 800 B.C. His most famous work is that of the Ilias and the Odyssey.

Homer was blind, also there is little known of area he lived in. It is assumed that because of his handicap he told stories to earn a living.

The Ilias and the Odyssey are epic stories. They tell about the war on Troy, a city in Asia Minor. The Ilias describes the cause for the war on troy and mentions the mythical figures as Helena, the daughter of Zeus and Achilles. The Odyssee tells about the ten year voyage home of the Hero.
