A Greek vacation starts south of the town of Chios at the beach of Karfas. At Karfas one of the most beautiful beaches of Chios island can be found. Karfas beach is approximately 400 m. long and about 30 m. wide. Besides the sunbathing and swimming Karfas has many other activities, like wind-surfing, sailing, water-ski and canoe The sandy beach is shallow for a long distance into the sea. Which makes it perfect for family days at the beach.

 

 

Some say Homer himself named the place "karfaleos", which means as much as dry.

A sight seeing near Karfas (the village of Vavili) is the church of panagia Krina (virgin Krina). This church is dated from the year 1278 and is built in the octagonal style of this period like nea moni. The walls inside have been decorated with three seperate layers of paintings. The latest layer has been painted by Michael Chomatzis. Michael Chomatzis is known to be one of the last artists of the 18th century Cretan School.

 

 

Apart from this, the town offers the visitor a great variety of restaurants, fish taverns, Mini markets, traditional taverns and pubs. Transportation from and to Chios-city can be done by means of the regular bus-line, or by taxi. Also scooters or cars can be rent at one of the car rentals.
